Little Shop of Horrors
Audrey II Puppets

After posting pictures of the Stay Puft Costume to Twitter, I was found and contacted by Alicia Dempster (Director) who asked if I would be interested in designing & constructing the Audrey II puppets for a production of Little Shop of Horrors going up at the Brookfield Theatre for the Arts in November of 2009. Of course I jumped at the opportunity and quickly began the early stage design work. While waiting for my contract to come through, I did a little Photoshop practice & created a test logo for the musical. Once all the paperwork was set, I requested a copy of the ground plans, but since none was available, I took measurements of the stage area and created a quick 3D model (available on the Other Assorted Scenic Design page). The idea is for the carnivorous Audrey II plant to go through four stages of growth each labeled Pods #1-#4 respectively. Previous to starting this project, I had had an idea for a new design process for turning digital 3D models into full sized real life models, & this seemed like the perfect opportunity to test it out. In the end, the design process worked like a dream, and the show was successful, but because of scheduling issues, I was not given the opportunity to finish my work on the Pods before the Theatre took possession. The direction I was taking with the puppets is quite visible in the pictures below, though the addition of vines, leaves, more coloring, and the rest of the final detailing would have definitely taken things to a whole different level... Since designing for Brookfield, I've shipped a number of completed Pod #1's as well as foam cutting patterns for interested parties to make their own.

Please Note: I do not rent Audrey II puppets. I do however still have & retain the rights to the designs for the puppets.
